SUPPORTING FIRST RESPONDER SAFETY4/12/2021 LEGACY is proud to come alongside first responders to both provide rescue tools for private ponds and at the same time promote citizen and first-responder safety. Drowning in small farm ponds or recreational areas happens at alarming rates in every season. Summer swimming accidents and in the winter thin-ice can both set the stage for danger. Untrained by-standers, eager to help, often wade or swim into the perilous water. This not only puts them at risk but adds to the number of rescues the first responders must make, stretching their ability to be effective and putting responders' lives at greater risk. The JENSON RESCUE ROPE is a simple tool which can be placed at any pond or pool. The rescue rope is named for a four-year-old boy who drowned just before Christmas in 2019 at his family farm. His six-year-old brother and grandfather had to be rescued as both went in to try and save Jenson. The brother was resuscitated successfully, Jenson died from the accident. The East Wayne Fire District in Wayne County, Ohio where Jenson's family farm is located helped create and distribute the JENSON RESCUE ROPE and now Legacy of Honor is setting aside funds to help protect first responders and others by making more of these great tools available. A weighted float at one end of the rope is thrown past the person drowning. The natural motion of flailing arms is a perfect fit to the rescue rope. The person is instructed to just let the rope wrap around their arm and they can then be pulled to safety. The entire tool, rope and float are contained inside a capped pvc pipe suspended to a post by the water. A small dowel sized pvc pipe extends through the bottom of the larger pipe, holding the rescue rope inside. Pulling on the small pipe to remove it allows the rope and float to drop out and can be immediately thrown into the water. Comments are closed.
